How can I make my city accept my chickens?

I want to change the rules for my city to make having chickens sustainable for me and for my neighbors as well. What kind of bylaws can we suggest to the city council?

Have your neighbors sign off on it if they will with a letter of support or do a petition... it may help! However, what ever you do we wish you the best of luck!

The Cilty of Springfield Missouri passed an ordinace allowing chickens for one year. They reviewed the ordinance after one year and found that there were far fewer complaints on chickens than there were dogs, so the orinance stands. I was not involved with the process, but I have read alot about it on (The Well Fed Neighbor) site. It is a site visited by mostly people in the SW Missouri area and is dedicated to local food. The Springfield Ordinance allows a total of 5 hens and no rousters due to noise that they make. There are also rules about letting them run and such you may find someone on the Well Fed Neighbor site that can help you. Good Luck
