About Me
Born on 10 acres in rural Florida, I enjoyed beekeeping, gardening with my father and playing on mulch piles
In 1984 our family moved from the country to the city. Over the years family has, through hard work and dedication to being the change we wish to see, transformed our ordinary city lot into a revolutionary modern urban homestead.

It's good to see that you decided to visit the community again. Have those sisters been keeping you busy with the Sunday night social events? :0) Cold is a relative thing. It's all about what you are used to. Here in Nebraska cold is single digit temperatures but those in Alaska would scoff at single digit temperatures and wonder about what's the big deal. My sister in Las Vegas thinks that 50 degrees is cold. I hope all your gardens make it through the frosty weather. Have a great day. less
As drought grips 80% of the country, the devastation to corn and other breadbasket crops this year could surpass last year's record claims for weather-related crop losses.

Praying for all those who's crops are affected! One way or another we will all feel the effects of this drought and crop loss.
From the blog The Lookout: The United States Department of Agriculture has declared natural disaster areas in more than 1,000 counties and 26 drought-stricken states, making it the largest natural disaster in America ever. The declaration—which covers r
The discovery of the disease in Hacienda Heights, spread by the Asian citrus psyllid, is the first confirmed case in California. Citrus tree sales have been banned in a five-mile radius.
NebraskaDaveOh, yeah, Spring has sprung in Nebraska. Light rain with warm temperatures is making all the grass turn green and grow. I expect to be walking behind the lawn mower by next week. Oh, happy day. Life is good. Don't you think?

Have a great first day of Spring everyone. I'm celebrating by making home made icecream.

Hey Freedom Gardeners I am looking for a few good writers and or co-editors for this site. I really could use help answering folks questions (have over 30 submitted questions in queue!) and writing articles about all aspects of growing your own food. Email if interested. Thanks and happy growing!
Hello all!! As many of you may already know i'm a seed collector and trader. I save my own seeds from crops that i grow and i trade those with others who do the same.Just testing the waters here to see if anyone else is interested in getting together as a group. Perhaps we could discuss the different things we're working on at the time; ...
This group is open to anyone who loves their compost bins as much as I do! It is also open to anyone who is seriously trying to improve their soil quality and needs some tips or some moral support in their efforts to improve the productivity of their soil.
We're our own wonky area with 12 months of sun in some places and ice in snow in others, and "traditional" planting seasons often don't apply to us, it can get confusing! But what an awesome place to have a garden :) Lets talk about what grows in our area, the weather, co-ops, local gardening events, or just off topic chat ...
For all those that forgo meat and/or other animal products, whether for the love of animals, your health, the earth, or religious/ethical reasons. Discuss recipes, issues, lifestyle, whatever! Also feel free to ask any question if wondering about vegetarianism or veganism. We don't bite.
Browsing about this community, it seems like a lot of you all are married and or with kids or have a significant other. So I decided to make homesteading / freedom garden singles! Those of us who are in the same boat - join and let's chat! How do you deal with finding others of like mind?
Rodney has the right idea - we had one and used the 2 pieces of it for a fence/trellising. It eventually rusted, but it worked well while it lasted. Good luck!

I like this site and Freedom Gardeners very much and could spend all day here. However, it is growing season and the garden beckons. What is the average amount of time do you spend on FreedomGardens.org?
I am going to create a series of polls to check out our Freedom Gardens demographic. There are no wrong answers!
1.) How much time do you spend gardening?
