Is it the distractions that make our differences become more visible and more difficult to ignore? Without the endless barrage of stimulus we endure each day would it be easier to take a moment and try to see someone else's point-of-view and better understand one another?
When you strip down all the adjectives and interests and beliefs and ideologies, the bells and whistles and from where and when you came, the truth is; one man sitting alone in the dark is not so different than any another man sitting in the dark.
And that was my Earth Hour...
Yes, face to face active listening is a dying art. That, and reading books... Our society is so self absorbed in their own little reality bubble that they won't take the time or effort to listen and find about anothers point of view, because they don't care. Apathy is destroying our society, our lives, our Earth. It may not be face to face, but with community networking like this that the Dervaes have so graciously provided for us we can reach out even into cyberspace and find like minded persons to learn with, to care with and to share with. It is certainly a step in the right direction to get back to our ancestral roots of good, healthy simple living. Living that doesn't harm us or the Earth and the animals that we share it with.
No Timothy, we ARE no different than our ancestors who sat in the dark contemplating the meaning of life just as we do. And hopefully we are learning from them and becoming a little wiser for it.
