Family Just Mr Chiot's and I - no kids (by choice). We do have Lucy (the garden's namesake), she's a 7 year old lab mix from the pound - best $8 we ever spent! We also have 2 rescued cats: Samson & Sofie. This winter we just rescued another cat named Dexter (well, he sort of rescued himself by showing up on our doorstep).
About Me I grew up in South America (my parents are Americans that work there). So I have lived with water and electricity rationing. I try to be green so others won't have to deal with this in this country.

We lived off the grid (except for electric) for a summer when I was in grade school, we had to carry water from the local creek, take sun-warmed showers outdoors. We always grew all of our own food growing up, our summers were spent weeding a huge garden and preserving all the harvests.

I would love to build a mud oven in my backyard and grow a few more crops. I really can't grow too much (we have a super shaded lot) or keep too many animals (but I do dream of getting a few Ducks). I do try to buy things as locally as possible, including my real milk from a small local dairy farm.

Mr Chiots and I own our own business (2ndMileProductions.com) so I don't think that living off the grid would be possible now. We need internet, electric for all the computers/cameras/etc, and we need gas to get to our locations. But we try to use as little as possible and make sure we support local businesses and do our part.
Interests Gardening, sewing, and cooking and reading in the winter. Yes, I know I should have been born 50 years before I was!

Main Crops Mainly ornamental flowers, I'm getting into growing edible plants more and more. This year I'm grew: 12 different kinds of tomatoes, strawberries, blueberries, 2 kinds of broccoli, 3 kinds of cabbage, several kinds of lettuce,spinach, sweet potatoes, potatoes, 2 kinds of beets, pumpkins, squash, zucchini, and popcorn. I'm also going to grow a lot of different kinds of herbs for medicinal use as well as to make my own teas. I also planted a cherry tree, nectarine tree and 6 blueberry bushes. We're also hoping to get a hive of bees this year (they're on order). That should be quite an adventure. I would like to add a few more fruit trees to the gardens and a few more areas for crop growing. Hopefully I have enough time and energy for all of my new plans!
