  A  neighbor just put their house on the market. It is about 1900 sq ft and has a basement, and 2 car unattached garage. The home is brick and sits in a neighborhood that is well maintained but the homes were built in the 40s and 50s. The house is on 4 acres with no covenents.  Many here have gardens and some people park their motor homes and trailers near their homes. The house is priced at $210,000.00  If I didn't already live here I would move here.

  That is much cheaper than CA ;-)

  I'm sure the housing market has something to do with it, but that's pretty cheap if the houses are worth anything. My house was built in the 60's and with one acre it's in the mid 300's.

  The price of a home is what made me leave California. I bought my 3 bedroom, 1 bath, 1350 sf home in the Midwest 3 years ago for 36,500. My mortgage is less than my car payment. There are many things I loved about Southern California but I work up one day and realized that, if I stayed, I'd be living in an apartment for the rest of my life.

  During the great California housing rush a few years ago, you could actually buy a nice tear down on a small lot for a cool million. Then they build a large new house on it ;-)

  Have friend with 1300 sqft house and basement on 3.5 ac, 3mile out of town on hwy with 40x80 shed and garage for 65,000. She hasn't gotten any takers yet. and it a nice place. it is in Kansas that is problem.

  Justin - I'm not sure, but the inlaws pretty much left it as FAST as they could... (hubby's parents both grew up on farms, and only one matriarch is still on farm land)

  The housing market has been crazy for a few years now. BTW if anybody is looking for a place in Fresno, well actually outside, in Carruthers, I know of a 1.2 acres with it's own well, a nice 2 bedroom 1 bath house, plus an older moble home and a really old house being used for storage and a work shop.....I don't know how much the family is going to ask for it yet tho. But they told me most places around there go for under $100,000....In the middle of nowhere grapeville.

  100 deg 80% hum. 15-25 mph wind in summer, ) deg and wind in winter but wheat loves it

  Prices have gone up some here in Northrn Arkansas. But we bought out land for $500 an acre 10 yrs ago.Now it is $1000 an acre for unemproved land. We left california over 25 yrs ago when our rent alone was close to $1500 a month on an old airport strip in cnetral Ca. YOu couldn't pay me to live there again. Besides I couldn't afford to live there.I retired at 53 because I could afford to. We live on hubbies disability and savings. I coudl go back to work in nursing tomorrow if I wanted but would rather not.

  Anybody want to trade an in-town 3 level house (3000 +/- sq ft) home w/ 3 100 year old grape vines, 1 30+ y.o apricot tree and some raised beds + a 46' well in the basement, for a central CA (wife is stuck in the mud for now...) fixer upper w/ farmable land ? Value is about $275-300k.(all but paid for. Still owe 49k). Looking for options.
